Garrigues, Uría and Cuatrecasas take top spots in Legal 500 Rankings — analysis by María Sol Rubio in Cinco Días

Cinco Días provides an in-depth look at the EMEA 2025 edition of The Legal 500 guide: “Garrigues, Uría and Cuatrecasas take top spots in Legal 500.”

The British publication The Legal 500 has released the results of its evaluation and rankings of law firms across the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region. In Spain, once again, the top tiers continue to be dominated by major domestic firms, ahead of their international counterparts.

A key development this year, as highlighted by María Sol Rubio, partner at Gericó Associates, is the introduction of two new categories: Financial Services Regulatory and Venture Capital. These additions, she explains, are “a response to the maturity reached by legal teams in these areas, as well as growing client demand for more technical and specialised advice.”

In the newly established Financial Services Regulatory category, 11 firms have been recognised across four bands. KPMG and Deloitte Legal rank in the top tier, followed by Cuatrecasas, Garrigues and Linklaters. According to María Sol Rubio, this recognition “comes at a time when regulatory frameworks are in constant flux, driven by European legislative developments and the increasing digitalisation of the financial sector.”

The Venture Capital category also features 11 firms, distributed across three bands. Cuatrecasas, Gómez-Acebo & Pombo and Pérez-Llorca lead in Band 1, with Bird & Bird, Garrigues and DWF-RCD listed in Band 2. In Rubio’s view, “to be ranked in this category, firms must not only demonstrate technical expertise in transactions, but also possess a deep understanding of the dynamic and ever-evolving nature of venture capital.”
